SOCOTECO 2 Implements Seven Hours Daily Rotating Brownout

It’s the Season of Brownouts again! I thought that after the elections and all the bombing chaos and rains and floods in the country, particularly in Mindanao, we would finally be spared from electrical brownouts. But nah, I am so wrong. That feeling that you’re watching news or movies and then the TV suddenly turns off, or you are playing Candy Crash Saga and you suddenly lost connection! That sucks!

According to the latest news, rotating brownouts will increase to 7 HOURS daily, with 3.5 hours in the morning and the other half in the afternoon or night. This schedule will begin by OCTOBER 1 (TUESDAY). This increase in brownout hours is due to the reported blast of an NGCP Tower at Kabacan, Cotabato last September 27, 2013 at 7:40 PM. Transmission lines have been adversely affected by the blast. For the complete story, as well as for the schedule of brownouts in your area, you may refer to the homepage of SOCOTECO 2.

Also according to the local news, the modular generator sets which had been established four months back may be in operation in the coming days in order to alleviate the energy crisis. The 15-megawatt gensets are hoped to decrease the brownout hours by 2 hours. Well, that at least is a “good” new. But the real “good” news will be no brownouts (and that I think will be in my dreams).
As a consumer and electric power user, I could only pray that SOCOTECO 2 people will be diligent and considerate in their jobs. That they don’t play jokes on people by turning “on” and “off” the current which causes stress to our appliances and increase in our electrical bills. It really pisses everyone off.
