Camp John Hay (CJH) is one of the most popular visitor
attractions in Baguio City. Among the many resorts and parks in the City of
Pines, this is perhaps the place where you can do a lot of things – from simple
chilling in their hotels, to a stroll in the woods, playing paintball or golf,
and many more….
Sitting on a 690-hectare property, Camp John Hay is also
known as John Hay Air Base. Prior to its present status as prime tourist
attraction in Baguio City, it initially served as the rest and recreational facility
for employees of the military and Department of Defense of the United States. It
was named after US President Theodore Roosevelt’s secretary of war. During the
war, the facility was used b y the Japanese as a concentration camp for
American and British soldiers.
In July, 1991, the property was turned over to the Philippine
government. It was previously administered by the Philippine Tourism Authority
before it was turned over to the Bases Conversion Development. For the first
time, the place was open to the public and converted into a recreational
complex.
For those
interested in playing golf, Camp John Hay has a 5,330-yard, 18-hole, par-68
golf course which is one of the best in the country. There is a new golf
clubhouse which has a restaurant and function rooms that cater to golfers,
visitors, and also the local residents of Baguio. Around the complex there are
beautiful gardens, picnic areas, parks, an ampitheater, and hiking trails that
wind through the rolling hills and pine trees within the former military
reservation.
Hence, the
place is a perfect place for families, lovers, and friends for some quality bonding
time.
Since it's Baguio City, you can simply feast on anything strawberry....
