The Mansion and Wright Park are two popular tourist attractions
in Baguio City, the Summer Capital of the Philippines. Conveniently located
along Leonard Wood Road and sitting across each other, these two destinations provide
visitors a different kind of viewing experience.
The Mansion, or Mansion House, is said to be the “vacation”
house of the president of the country. But more than being just a rest house, the
building holds a significant piece of history as it served as government seat
for several times. The Mansion is fenced with an elaborate main gate, a replica
of that at Buckingham Palace in London. There is also a beautiful lawn and
garden fronting the structure. Inside the Mansion, there is a mini museum
showcasing some housing memorabilia and works of art. Unfortunately, tourists are
not allowed to go beyond the wide lawn and approach the mansion. So from afar, I and my friends just enjoyed taking images of this grand building.
Just opposite the street is the Wright Park. Its main
feature is the elongated pool going to the park. It looks like the garden of
Taj Mahal. Well, that body of water in the Wright Park is known as the “Pool of
Pines”. Towering pine trees line the road along the pool, providing shade and
cool breeze to tourists. From the
park circle is a walkway which leads to a wide stairway made of stones that
descend to an area where ponies are rented out. Too tired from walking, we just decided not to go further down the stairway. The view at the pool
is breath-taking enough.
