One of the key places to visit when you are in the City of
Pines is the beautiful Baguio Botanical Garden. Flowers and plants, massive bargains,
temples, and Igorots are some of the highlights of this ecopark.
The Baguio Botanical Garden, also known as the Igorot Village, is located between the Teacher’s Camp and the Pacdal Circle, east of Baguio’s downtown area. It is quite a large and quiet park where you can have a nice time strolling or walking along its winding pathways while enjoying the view of the landscape of diverse plants and trees. If you don’t like to walk, you can simply sit down and relax on the benches scattered around.
You can also buy handicraft items in the small marketplace. From
refreshments to foods to souvenir items, they have it all. You also buy the
plants sold at the Botanical Garden. Just bear in mind that those plants may
not thrive in the lowlands. LOL.
The main attraction in the park is actually the Igorot
culture depicted in many spots in the garden. There are native huts typical of Igorot
dwellings. There are monuments and statues. And of course, they are actual Igorots
dressed in their authentic native attire at the main entrance of the park. I and
my friends were just lucky that when we visited the Botanical Garden, we get to
see these people. One can also take pictures with them (for a price, of
course).
Thus, never miss out the Botanical Garden if you are in
Baguio City.
