It’s now time for some side trip and visit places beyond the
borders of SOCCSKSARGEN. Let’s begin this side trip with a magnificent beauty hidden
among the hills of Surigao del Sur.
One can reach Surigao through different ways. As for me and
my friends, we rode a bus from Ecoland Terminal in Davao City going to
Mangagoy, Bislig City in Surigao del Sur. Since there are no air-conditioned
Bachelor buses, the trip from Davao to Bislig took around seven hours. Bislig
is quite a sleepy city, with its narrow main roads and hilly landscapes from
here to there.
Tinuy-an Falls is located in Brgy. Burboanan. Riding the
City’s version of habal-habal motorcycle, we reached the amazing cascade in
roughly one hour. It was a bumpy ride on dusty dirt roads and over old
footbridges.
At the park, one must pay the entrance fee of P50.00. Right
at the entrance, visitors will be greeted with a short but wide waterfall. It
was nothing breath-taking but it is already a good teaser for what is waiting
further in the park.
And indeed, Tinuy-an Falls can be tagged as the “Niagara
Falls of the Philippines.” According to Wikipedia, the falls are 95 m wide and
55 meter high. I don’t know how accurate the measurements are, but the cascades
are truly high and wide. Its beauty reminded me of the falls in Lake Sebu.
Tinuy-an Falls are composed of three cascades. The lower
fall is very high and where most people took their dips. Thankfully, we were
there on Monday so there were a few visitors.
Going up through a dangerous trail, we came upon the other
two falls. The views from up there were more overwhelming and awe-inspiring.
Truly, the Tinuy-an Falls are gems glittering in the quiet
town of Bislig City.
