Much of the day has been gloomy. The afternoon sky was
especially grayish dark scattered with fluffy cumulonimbus clouds. There was
even slight rain for a couple of minutes. And the wind was chilly and fresh. Has
the rainy season official begun? And is there a storm coming?
Of the four classification of climates in the Philippines, General
Santos City falls under Type IV. Places in this category experience rainfall
that is more or less evenly distributed throughout the year. In other words,
the City may experience rains and storms any time of the year. On average, the
yearly precipitation in the City is 166.15 inches. Its average high surface temperature
is 87.7OF and the average low is 75.5OF.
As for the cloudiness experienced today, there is no reason
to fear for an incoming storm. There is only an Intertropical Convergence Zone
(ITCZ) hovering near Southern Mindanao. For the next 24 hours, Mindanao will
experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.
So that’s it, no typhoon is approaching the country as a
whole. Tomorrow is the first day of work for most and the first day of classes for
the students. Let us all keep safe from any rain that may come.
