7 Hours Rotating Brownout Over the Weekend

Generals, brace yourself! This weekend, General Santos, South Cotabato and the areas serviced by SOCOTECO II will experience an amazing 7-hour brownout on Saturday and Sunday. Yup, that’s quite long and combined with the humidity and heat, we can expect a searing and sizzling hot weekend. Well, here is the full advisory from SOCOTECO II:

“The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) yet again declared a bigger generation deficiency in Mindanao grid at 300 megawatts (MW) for Saturday, March 16, 2013. The National Power Corporation, however, gave no official statement on why there is continuing rise of deficiency in the grid.

SOCOTECO II will manage the meager supply of 35 MW from NPC and 30 MW from Therma Marine, Inc. (TMI), as against the area’s peak demand at 112 MW. The total
shortage of 47 MW led to the increased hours of rotational brownout of at least six hour to seven hours, which will be implemented on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17, 2013.”
