South Cotabato Youth Leader Leads Your Big Year Competition

Mindanaoans would have another reason to cheer as one of its youth leaders currently leads in the Top 111 finalists of the Your Big Year.

Your Big Year is a featured event of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which is endorsed by world leaders including President Obama and former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. It is an inspiring competition launched by Smaller Earth to positively impact the world. It helps answer the question, “What is global citizenship and why is it important to us?”

Around 60,000 applicants from around the world vied for the award, and last November 11, 2011, the Top 111 was announced. Making it to the short list were two contingents from the Philippines, and one of which is a proud Mindanaoan named Kayla Marie B. Sarte.

Miss Sarte is a Summa Cum Laude student from Notre Dame of Marbel University. As part of the competition, Miss Sarte is required to participate in the Global Entrepreneurship Week, create and publish press releases, pass a video which answers the question, “How can you help Smaller Earth achieve its 2020 vision impacting 20 million lives”, and a video tutorial of three individuals saying what their big year is. Together with the SK Provincial Federation, she will also create a social network connecting all youths in the Philippines and link them to international opportunities like a youth congress.

So what awaits the winners of Your Big Year?

The top 12 contestants will then fly to Liverpool, UK for the final round in March 2012. One finalist will emerge as a winner and will be given opportunity to tour around the following countries: UK, Romania, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, India, Australia, Zambia and Zimbabwe and will take part in different press interviews and global conferences.
