Green Caravan 2012

The annual Philippine Earth Day will soon be celebrated by the 22nd of April. It has been the tradition to put off lights for one hour as an energy saving activity during the day. But for this year, there are plans for a week-long celebration and activities to nurture Mother Earth will be held all over Mindanao. One of such activities is the Green Caravan.

The Green Caravan will be spearheaded by the EarthSoul Solutions, Inc. The lead sponsors of the activity are the Department of Agriculture, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Interior and Local Government, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and the City of Davao.

The said activity aims to increase awareness of Mindanaonons on the serious environmental issues facing them and the need to take resolute action.  As the name suggests, Green Caravan will be a parade to protect nature. It will be held on April 17-19 and shall start at four different locations scattered all over Mindanao and end at Davao City.

The first route will be from Zamboanga City, including Sulu, Tawi-tawi, Lamitan, Isabella, and Basilan. The second route will start at Cagayan de Oro City, along with Ozamis, Marawi, Oroqueta and Tangub. The third route will compose of Cotabato and the SOCSKSARGEN area. The last route will cover Surigao City, Tandag City and Bislig City. Depending on location, participants will start the Green Caravan on different days and shall converge in Davao City, in time for the Mindanaonon Environment Summit.

Along the way, participants shall distribute educational materials on environmental protection and organic farming. There will also be mini-orientations, tree planting activities, and courtesy calls to various offices.

Who can join the Caravan? Every person who cares about Mother Earth is welcome to join. You can contact the following email addresses for inquiries about registration and other matters: earthsol2011@yahoo.com and info.earthsoulsolutions@gmail.com.
