The Department has some visitors this week. Last Wednesday, our Bayaws from Central Mindanao University took a tour in our area.
Wednesday had been very busy. In the morning, we had our University Council Meeting and like all the other meetings, it was full of grievances and heartaches. Kind of frustrating. Good thing that there were great news delivered.
So by around noon, we want back to the office and had our lunch. By half past one, our visitors finally arrived. Dressed in maroon shirts, 18 Bayaws, with their adviser Engr. Rina Fe Mencede and tour coordinators, marched out of their vans. The term “Bayaw” is what we used to call our fellow Agricultural Engineers, whether in the professional or student group.
We a very quick courtesy call with our Dean and immediately we proceeded to our vicinity. Funny that these guys had to tread our unfriendly footpath – on dry dirt, over a wide gully, and amidst head high grasses.
They visited our machinery shed, the screen house, and hydraulic laboratory. It was gratifying that they were pretty impressed with what we had to offer.
Well, Central Mindanao University is a premier school in Mindanao, specializing in agriculture-related programs. It is located in Bukidnon and I had visited it for many times already. Always, I am in awe of the facilities and projects of the University, like their large fruit orchard, forest, rubber plantation and processing area, and various livestock projects.
For these people to appreciate what little we had brings out a wonderful feeling. They said that they had to visit us and see for themselves why we had so many topnotchers in the licensure examination, almost every year it is. Well, I guess we simply find ways to make up with what we lack.
Hope it had been a great learning experience for our Bayaws from CMU. May we see each other soon.
