The Grand Provincial Capitol of Sultan Kudarat

Two years back, I got to participate in a statistics training course at Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) with my fellow colleague in the faculty. The university is located at Isulan, the provincial capital of Sultan Kudarat. One of the best attractions in the municipality is the Provincial Capitol of Sultan Kudarat. We were in Isulan, so we did not let the opportunity to visit the place pass us. So on the last day of the training course, we headed off to the Provincial Capitol.

After a long rough ride from SKSU, we arrived at the Capitol and immediately, we were blown away by the grandeur of the place. We felt like being transported to another time or place. The Capitol was like a grand palace, like something out of the stories of Aladdin or Ali Baba.

Right at the entrance, what greeted us was a golden bust (I forgot  whose head was it, LOL!). Just few reaches away was a souvenir shop where shirts, mugs, key chains, and other knick knacks can be bought at an affordable price. There is also a glass covered map of the area near the shop.

Still in the first floor, right at the heart of the structure, is a fountain. We were sad it was not working that time we visited.

The elevators were also down, so we just used the stairs. The balusters were silvery metal, matching the clean white tiles of the entire place. The rooms were also meticulously crafted, akin to the exclusive rooms in classy hotels, when in fact, those rooms housed an agency or office.

The balconies at the back and front were also awe-inspiring. At the back, the lush greeneries and wide coconut plantation met our view. In the front is another view – the look of an emerging development and success.

The Capitol was constructed under the administration of Gov. Datu Pax S. Mangudadatu and Suharto T. Mangudadatu. According to what I heard, the structure cost at least half billion pesos. That is really a big WOW!

The Capitol might be very luxurious, but in some ways, it has attracted the attention of many people and visitors. But more than being a tourist spot for the province, the Capitol serves as a reflection of the rich culture and bountiful prospects in the province of Sultan Kudarat.
