General Santos City is a booming city in the South. But amidst all the rising development, the City remains teeming with trees, flowers, animals and wildlife. A very common sight in almost all corners of the city is the neem tree.
The neem tree, also spelled as nim tree, belongs to the mahogany family. It is native to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh but has since grown in many tropical and semi-tropical regions. This tree normally reaches a height of 15-20 meters. Though evergreen, it may shed most or nearly all its leaves during severe droughts. It has inflorescences which can bear 150 to 250 flowers. Its smooth fruits resemble olives.
