GENSANarium will be on hiatus for the next two years or so. For the mean time, posts subtitled as SIDE TRIPS will be featured which highlight other places and events in the Philippines. Enjoy! - Admin, 2/10/14

SUNTEC Solar Water Heater in Gensan

One time while I was looking for some tiles and decorative blocks at Citi Hardware (along J. Catolico Avenue), I came across a very fascinating equipment. I had no idea that this is available in our locality. I saw this thing in several photos and even use them in my lectures. So what am I referring to? It is a solar water heater.

A solar water heater is composed of water tank coupled with evacuated tubes. It relies on warm water rising, a phenomenon known as natural convection, to circulate water through the collectors and to the tank. In this type of installation, the tank must be located above the collector. As water in the collector heats, it becomes lighter and naturally rises into the tank above. Meanwhile, cooler water in the tank flows downwards into the collector, thus causing circulation throughout the system.

The brand I saw is the SUNTEC SOLAR. Accordingly, the technology brings  high  efficient  heating  method adopting  the  advanced three  target  vacuum  tube  technology. Here are more interesting facts about SUNTEC solar water heaters:

  • Did  you  know  that  30%  of  the  heat  absorbed  by  a  normal  metal pipe  system is  lost  even  during  day  time ?  But SUNTEC  SOLAR absorbed  the maximum  amount  of  heat  and  the  heat  loss  is very less  due  to  the  vacuum   technology.
  • What about hot water on cloudy days? No worries! Unlike other solar heating systems,  SUNTEC  SOLAR hot  water  system heat up with  ultra  violet  rays (UV rays) even  on  cloudy  days.

  • SUNTEC SOLAR  hot  water  system  has  no  contact  with  Copper  or any  foreign  metals  unlike  other  water  heating  panels. It is 100% safe to drink.

  • Now available tank capacity in 100L, 150 L, 200 L and 250 L.

It is truly wonderful that solar heaters exist in the city. Being in the tropics which significantly receive abundant solar energy, General Santos City can make great use of such technology and of such natural resource.
