More Shopping Centers to Rise on GenSan Grounds

The Generals never cease to paint the city red and add more colors to their already festive lives as more commercial centers shall open this year.  Yes, a couple of shopping havens will open their doors to excited Generals sometime this year. This means more places to stroll during lazy afternoons, more shopping galore, more items to choose from, more foods to try, and more adventures to experience!

Last year, the people already saw the designs of these structures and the beginning of construction works. They are hoped to officially open this year. Here are the two shopping centers everyone is talking about.

SM City General Santos or SM City Gensan shall be the largest mall in Mindanao region. The mall is under the wings of SM Prime Holdings, the largest mall operator in the Philippines. It is located on a leased prime property along Santiago Blvd. and San Miguel street in the central business district of General Santos City. The mall is worth P2.5 billion.

SM City Gensan shall bring more excitement to local business. More fortunately, it has already installed a P53-million drainage system, benefitting a section of the city at its side in Lagao district. It shall also hire around 8,000 personnel, bringing in a large additional revenue for the city. The mall structure, now nearly finished, covers 150,000 square meters, bigger than the two SM malls in Davao City and the one in Cagayan de Oro City. It would also be designed differently, compared with its first mall in Ecoland, Davao City and in Cagayan de Oro City.

SM City Gensan shall have a huge supermarket, cinema (4), food court, department store and appliance center. Ace Hardware, Surplus Shop, Watson, Toy Kingdom and National Bookstore are some of the opening offers.

Construction of the mall is still in progress. Rumors claim that SM Gensan shall open around the first quarter of 2012. Others say its April (Wikipedia) or May, this year’s luckiest month according to feng shui.

Another sure-fire hit shopping center is the Veranza Mall, another addition to the grand KCC Malls. Veranza Mall is located right in front of the existing KCC Mall of Gensan. The mall shall feature fashionable and international brands, world-class restaurants, an Al-Fresco dining strip, and countless entertainment sections. Veranza Mall also boasts of being the first “Green” shopping mall in the South.  Accordingly, it shall highlight the five elements of nature. It shall have verdant landscapes, a roof garden and an elegant waterfall.

Construction of the new mall has already started. Veranza is expected to open by November this year.

Ayala Mall is also rumored to be established in the grounds of Gensan. Stories tell that there is land issue where the mall shall be constructed. This is thrilling. But until concrete plans are not made public, we can only hope for its realization.
